August 4-10, 2008: Paris Piano Workshop

Classes with Dr. Julie Jordan

One-week Piano Workshop and Auditor Program

The Paris Piano Workshop, open to performance majors and amateur pianists, encourages musicians to listen and perform together. Participants will explore the rich Piano Concerto and Solo Repertoire and prepare for auditions, rehearsals and performances.

Participants of the Paris Piano Workshop will follow individual and group classes with Dr. Julie Jordan, a member of The Juilliard School Evening Division. Dr. Jordan will engage pianists in performance practice discussions – phrasing, color, balance, technique, and tone projection. Participants will benefit from listening to repertoire they have prepared with practical suggestions that will enhance their performances.
There will be an opportunity for students to perform approved solo works at the Salle Munch, where Alfred Cortot held his masterclasses.

In addition, participants will audit the Paris Piano Program masterclass series, held daily at the Salle Cortot. These masterclasses center on specific repertoire, including French music, Mozart concerti, and Chopin piano works, and feature conservatory-level pianists receiving instruction from renown artists.

All classes take place at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, a historic and beautiful institution founded by Alfred Cortot. Located in the 17th arrondissement, the Ecole Normale is steps away from the lovely Parc Monceau, where participants may relax between classes.

Participants are housed at the Foyer International des Etudiantes (FIE), located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, facing the Luxembourg gardens. It is a short walk to Notre-Dame Cathedral and the bank of the Seine, and is surrounded by numerous shops, bookstores, and lively cafes.

Pianists with a rich and varied background are welcome to join a core group from Manhattan as they share in the thrill of performing old and new repertoire in a supportive environment.

Tuition: $1,000.

Housing: $350 for a double room

$450 for a single room
